Physician’s assistant blocks emergency helicopter from landing at fatal crash story from Sept. 2014
A Florida man has been arrested after police say he drove around emergency vehicles and made it impossible for a sheriff’s office helicopter to land at the scene of a fatal crash, according to The Daytona Beach News-Journal.
Deputies were responding to a fatal crash when they say 52-year-old James Allen, a physician’s assistant from Volusia County, drove his car off the paved highway to get around the emergency vehicles that were tending to the crash on Thursday.
Officials yelled for him to park his car away from the scene so an emergency helicopter could land and airlift the crash victim, but even with the helicopter hovering 50 to 100 feet above his head, he refused to stop, the News-Journal reports.
The helicopter was unable to land and then called off when officials realized that 26-year-old Tessa George had already died at the scene after she lost control of her sports utility vehicle and crashed it into a tree.
